Sarah’s giving spirit shone in everything she did. At 17, she served as student body president at Kealakehe High School and was active in water polo, swimming, cross-country, and track. Her generosity inspired those around her—a quality she expressed in an essay for her National Honor Society scholarship:
“I am the one to whom much was given. Much may be expected of me, and I may be obliged to give back. But I don’t see giving as an obligation or an expectation. Giving back is a part of my nature.”
After her sudden death in 2005, Sarah’s gifts reflected the words she had written. Through organ donation, she saved four lives. Her corneas restored sight to two people, and her gift of a heart valve helped a child facing serious heart complications.
Sarah is remembered for her leadership, her energy, and the generosity that was so much a part of who she was. Her legacy continues in the lives she saved and helped heal.
